Cachaça is of São Paulo origin. It originated
from the sugar cane brought from southern Asia by the Portuguese,
at a mill in the captaincy of São Vicente around
1540. Cachaça was once money for the purchase of
slaves in Africa. As a symbol of Brazilianism, cachaça
was present at the table of the revolutionists and the supporters
of Minas Gerais insurrection.
The “ground’s cachaça”, as it was
called, became a symbol of resistance against the Portuguese
dominion.Brazil is the reference country when cachaça
is considered, as Scotland is for whiskey and Mexico for
the tequila.

It
is Brazil’s most popular liquor.
The cachaça national production is 2 billion liters/year.
The home consumption is estimated around 1,6 billion liters/year
or 11 liters/year per person.
Around 400 million liters of Brazilian cachaça are
exported to 60 countries, a business of about US$ 1 billion
a year employing around 400 thousand people.
According to data from the ministry of agriculture, in the
year of 2001, cachaça sales abroad reached the amount
of US$ 20 million. One fourth of that total, almost US$
5 million, go to the German and Japanese markets.

Among the ways to promote the cachaça qualifications
and to conquer the home and international markets is the
creation of a blend, renowned way to produce scotch whiskeys,
the first requirement is the sugar cane quality and its
crops without the use of agricultural poisons, also processes
and production equipments, like alembics and bottling system,
are carefully analyzed.Degustation experts must evaluate
four aspects, considered essential by them: aroma, palate,
color and oiliness.
We must have cachaça as a product typically ours,
for its cultural and economic meanings, and above all, for
its unique characteristics concerning its palate and its
aroma. |
